4D Ultrasound

What is 4d ultrasound

4D ultrasound has recently been introduced in medical practice and complements 2D and 3D examination by obtaining images in real time. 4D ultrasound allows visualization of embryonic movements two weeks earlier than 2D ultrasound (1).

Purpose

Parents often want 3D and 4D ultrasounds. They let you see your baby's face for the first time. Some doctors like 3D and 4D ultrasounds because they can show certain birth defects, such as cleft palate, that might not show up on a standard ultrasound. Studies suggest that 3D and 4D ultrasounds are safe.

  • Pain areas: in the joints, ankle, back, fingers, hands, muscles, neck, or wrist
  • One of the main benefits of getting a 3D or 4D ultrasound is that it can help our team spot possible birth defects and health issues that may not necessarily show up on other imaging tests. You may also be able to get a fuller picture of your baby's features and face depending on the stage of fetal development.
  • Drink plenty of water in the DAYS leading up to your ultrasound. This simple tasks is one of the most important factors in determining the quality of pictures you will receive. Drinking water will increase the quality and clarity of your amniotic fluid which is like the “window” to view baby.
